Enterprise CV-6 (foreground) and Hornet CV-8 speed towards Japan's Home Islands to launch the Doolittle Raid on 18 April 1942. The Raid, carried out by 16 Army Air Force B-25 bombers, precipitated the Battle of Midway which took place just seven weeks later.
